Treaty Oak Revival Link Up With Dylan Marlowe’s Genre-Bending New Project ‘80 Acres’

It’s hard to ignore the momentum behind Treaty Oak Revival right now. The West Texas outfit has been on a steady rise since their 2023 breakout Have A Nice Day, and they doubled down on that success with last year’s West Texas Degenerate – a record that firmly cemented their place at the forefront of the Texas country and southern rock crossover space.

Treaty Oak Revival’s Chart-Topping Moment

The numbers backed it up too. West Texas Degenerate gave the band their first-ever No.1 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums and Americana/Folk Albums charts, while also landing high across multiple categories including Top Country Albums and even the all-genre Billboard 200. It was a statement moment, with the album’s tracks dominating the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart on release.

Now, instead of slowing down, Treaty Oak are stepping into something completely different.

Enter ‘80 Acres’

Dylan Marlowe’s new side project, 80 Acres, has been introduced in a way that’s sparked serious curiosity. His first tease came via Instagram – a photo in a barn with bandmates and a rough, hand-drawn flag displaying the project’s name, captioned simply with question marks.

Fueling the Mystery

Treaty Oak Revival quickly added to the intrigue, posting their own response featuring a flag that read, “WTF IS 80 ACRES.” From there, the conversation only grew louder as more teasers began to surface.

Breaking Away from Genre Lines

As clips and previews emerged, it became clear that 80 Acres isn’t rooted in traditional country. Instead, it leans into alternative and grunge influences, echoing some of Treaty Oak’s grit while pushing even further outside genre expectations.

Marlowe has made it clear that this project is all about freedom – no pressure for radio-friendly hits, no need to fit a mould. It’s simply a space to experiment and create without limits.

That vision comes to life in the project’s self-titled debut EP, a five-track release that features Treaty Oak Revival on one of its key moments, “Mess We Made.”

A Pop-Punk Edge

“Mess We Made” delivers exactly the kind of energy you’d expect from this collaboration. Driven by punchy guitars and anthemic hooks, it leans heavily into early 2000s pop-punk territory – reminiscent of bands like Blink-182 and All-American Rejects – while still carrying a raw, Texas-rooted edge.

It’s a noticeable shift away from country, but that’s entirely intentional. The project isn’t trying to fit into any one lane, and that’s what makes it stand out.

For fans of Treaty Oak Revival’s heavier side – or anyone who grew up on pop-punk but now leans into the country/rock crossover world – this track hits a sweet spot between nostalgia and something fresh.

More Than Just a Side Project

If this first release is anything to go by, 80 Acres feels like more than just a creative detour. It’s a bold, boundary-pushing move that could end up carving out its own lane entirely.
