Shaboozey Is Entering His Wildest Era Yet With ‘Born To Die’

Shaboozey has never exactly done things quietly, but his latest release feels bigger than a standard post-hit single rollout.

After dropping “Born To Die” last Friday, the singer has now paired the track with a cinematic new video that makes it clear this isn’t just a standalone release – it’s the start of an entirely new world.

The song launches his upcoming fourth album, The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales, which is set to arrive on July 31, and based on everything we’ve seen so far, he’s fully leaning into storytelling this time around.

Shaboozey Is Building A Full Western Universe

Rather than simply dropping a music video and moving on, Shaboozey is introducing fans to an actual narrative that will run through the album.

At the center of it all is Cherie Lee – a woman out for revenge after her sheriff father is murdered by a gang known as the Bootcut Boys.

The story follows her as she hunts the gang down across the Wild West, before things get more complicated when she falls for one of the very outlaws she’s meant to kill. Unsurprisingly, it doesn’t exactly end well.

The project has already been teased as a full “outlaw revenge story” built around revenge, romance and betrayal, with the darker ending making it clear this won’t be a neatly wrapped-up country love story.

That ambition feels notable. Plenty of artists talk about “eras,” but very few are actually building full conceptual worlds around an album release.

‘Born To Die’ Feels Bigger Than A Typical Single Release

The video itself feels more like a short film trailer than a traditional performance clip.

There’s a lot of dramatic western imagery throughout – dusty landscapes, saloons, gun fights, horseback scenes – and it all feels intentionally larger than life.

That fits with how Shaboozey has been operating recently. After the breakout success of Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going in 2024, he could’ve easily played things safe and chased another obvious viral hit.

Instead, this feels like a bigger creative swing.

And bringing in Jamie Foxx for narration on the album trailer only adds to how ambitious the whole rollout feels.

Stagecoach Festival Helped Kick Off The New Era

Shaboozey also used Stagecoach Festival weekend to push the new era even further.

Alongside a special performance at TODAY Plaza, he also introduced an immersive saloon activation tied to the album’s western concept during Stagecoach weekend.

Again – this is far bigger than simply releasing a song and hoping people stream it.

He’s clearly trying to build a full experience around this album, and whether you love concept albums or not, you can’t really accuse him of playing it safe right now.

After the year he had in 2024, a lot of people were waiting to see what his next move would be.

Turns out, he’s building an entire western universe.
