Lainey Wilson with Somewhere Over Laredo

Lainey Wilson has done it again. On the countdown to her Whirlwind (Deluxe) release, she’s surprised fans with a brand-new single “Somewhere Over Laredo”  – and a cinematic music video to match.

Dropped on June 20th, the track is a hazy, heart-tugging blend of vintage western storytelling and modern country soul. With rich visuals and a slow-burn sound, it’s one of her most striking releases yet.

Vintage Western Vibes in Lainey Wilson’s Modern Country Sound

Directed by TK McKamy, the video opens on a vintage-style plane – instantly setting the tone for a psychedelic Western journey. From there, Lainey transitions into canyons, riding her horse with flawless cowboy flair, thanks to standout costume design. The mix of desert landscapes, neon-hued rainbows, and dreamlike visuals gives the whole piece that old-school Western-meets-dreamscape vibe.

Strings & Storytelling

Sonically, “Somewhere Over Laredo” leans into laid-back country, but it’s the lush, cinematic strings that elevate it. They add emotional depth behind Lainey’s casual swagger, highlighting her storytelling in a bigger, more resonant way.

Western Glamour, Lainey Style

True to her signature flair, Lainey Wilson turns the desert into a runway in Somewhere Over Laredo. The video is packed with scene-stealing looks: bold fringe, statement cowboy hats, rhinestone details, and her unmistakable bell bottoms – all styled with a fearless nod to vintage Western glam. Whether she’s on horseback or strolling through neon-lit canyons, every outfit tells a story. It’s not just fashion – it’s part of the Lainey Wilson universe, where country grit meets high-style confidence.

Lainey once said the song reflects her moments spent alone in flight, letting her mind wander and confront personal truths. True to that, the video shows her journey returning to the plane seat – bookending a story about love, reflection, and moving on. Even her dog Hippie joins the ride, anchoring the emotional narrative in real connection .

Lainey Wilson proves she can balance wanderlust, reflection, and visual artistry in one package. With a stunning new video and a song that nods to nostalgia while staying rooted in real emotion, she’s shown once again why she’s one of the most inventive voices in country today.

[Verse 1]
Caught me a red-eye flight out of Houston
Found me a window seat with a view
Headed out west for South California
One Titos in, I’m thinkin’ ’bout you

[Pre-Chorus]
In that little border town
Where the desert glows gold
When the sun goes down
My head’s thirty thousand feet in the clouds
Knowin’ twenty minutes from now

[Chorus]
I’ll be somewhere over Laredo
Dreamin’ about those rodeo nights
Laid there on the banks of the Rio
New silver buckle on your jeans next to mine
Couple wrong for each other
Lonestar-crossed lovers
Born to get gone from the get-go
But you’re on my mind every time I’m chasin’ this neon rainbow
Somewhere over Laredo

[Verse 2]
I’m flyin’ high on a 737
Yeah, boy, I’m eye level with these stars
You think I’d be five miles closer to Heaven
But I reckon Heaven’s down there where you are

[Pre-Chorus]
Do you stop and stare at the Texas sky
Up in the air and wonder if I’m

[Chorus]
Somewhere over Laredo?
Dreamin’ about those rodeo nights
Laid there on the banks of the Rio
New silver buckle on your jeans next to mine
Couple wrong for each other
Lonestar-crossed lovers
Born to get gone from the get-go
But you’re on my mind every time I’m chasin’ this neon rainbow
Somewhere over Laredo

[Bridge]
Where the blackbirds fly
Once in a lullaby
For a second, I’m still yours
And you’re still mine

[Chorus]
Somewhere over Laredo
Dreamin’ about those rodeo nights
Laid there on the banks of the Rio
New silver buckle on your jeans next to mine
Couple wrong for each other
Lonestar-crossed lovers
Born to get gone from the get-go
But you’re on my mind every time I’m chasin’ this neon rainbow
Somewhere over Laredo

[Outro]
Ooh
Somewhere over Laredo
Somewhere over Laredo
