Drake White: Ladder Under The Sky – Full Documentary

In August 2019, Drake White was halfway through a set in Roanoke, Virginia when his body gave out. The country-soul troubadour collapsed mid-performance – the result of a sudden stroke caused by a rare brain condition known as AVM (Arteriovenous Malformation). Doctors feared he might never walk again, let alone return to the stage that defined his life.

Six years later, the Alabama native has done far more than recover – he’s turned his near-death experience into an extraordinary story of faith, resilience, and renewal. His new documentary, Ladder to the Sky: A Hunts the Healing Story, now streaming on YouTube, takes viewers inside that journey in a way only Drake White could tell it: raw, honest, and full of soul.

Drake White’s Hunt for Healing

Directed by Holt Ingalls and produced by White, Ingalls, and Zack Knudsen, the hour-long film pulls back the curtain on the months that followed White’s onstage collapse. Through emotional interviews and real-life footage, Ladder to the Sky reveals how a single moment – captured on a trail cam just two weeks after his stroke – became the symbol of his fight back.

Behind his house, a 175-inch buck appeared on camera. For Drake, it wasn’t just a deer – it was a sign. “That buck represented hope,” he shared in a recent conversation. “It was proof that beauty still existed in the middle of all that pain.”

From that moment, the outdoors became more than therapy; it became his ladder back to living. Hunting, nature, and the quiet rhythm of the woods guided him toward recovery – physically, spiritually, and creatively.

Drake White: The Comeback Trail

Ladder to the Sky features appearances from country heavyweights Riley Green, Zac Brown, and Kid Rock, alongside close friends and collaborators who watched Drake rebuild from the ground up. The film also celebrates the deep Southern culture that shaped him – featuring partners like Realtree, Honey Brake, and The Outdoor Channel – bridging the worlds of music, the outdoors, and healing.

To mark the release, White hosted an intimate premiere at Riley Green’s Nashville venue The Duck Blind, surrounded by family, friends, and fans who’ve followed every step of his comeback. The event wasn’t just a celebration of the film – it was living proof of the story it tells.

Drake White and The Benefit for the Brain

In true Drake White fashion, the documentary arrives as part of a bigger purpose. This November 17, he’ll headline his second Benefit For The Brain concert at the Ryman Auditorium, joined by Riley Green, Jon Pardi, Kassi Ashton, and surprise guests.

The annual benefit – born from White’s recovery – raises funds for three key causes close to his heart: mental wellness for veterans, children’s brain health, and stroke recovery research. The first event in 2023 sold out the Ryman and raised over $253,000.

White describes it simply: “Music gave me a platform. God gave me a second chance. This is me giving both back.”

Drake White’s Next Chapter

Beyond the documentary, 2025 is shaping up to be another busy year for White. His recent singles, “Nuthin’ But a Smile” and “Nights on Fire,” showcase the signature warmth and grit that made him one of Rolling Stone’s 10 Country Artists You Need to Know. He’s currently touring North America alongside Riley Green, with plans to headline his Keep It Movin’ Tour later this fall.

It’s been a long road from that night in Roanoke – a road that nearly ended, but instead became the story of a man who refused to stop moving.

With Ladder to the Sky: A Hunts the Healing Story, Drake White doesn’t just remind fans where he’s been – he shows them where faith, grit, and music can take you when life tries to stop the show.
