Academy of Country Music Awards 2026 Nominations: Big Wins, Familiar Names – And The “New Artist” Debate Again

The 2026 ACM nominations have landed, and at first glance, it feels like a big moment – especially for the women leading the way.
Megan Moroney tops the list with nine nominations, with Miranda Lambert, Ella Langley and Lainey Wilson right behind her. It’s a strong showing, and one that genuinely reflects what the last year in country has looked like.
But once you get past the headline, there’s still a bit more to it.
The Top End Feels Right
There’s not a lot here that feels surprising – but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Moroney’s rise has been hard to ignore, Wilson is still firmly in her moment, and Lambert continuing to rack up nominations at this stage almost feels expected. Even the Entertainer of the Year category – with names like Morgan Wallen, Luke Combs and Chris Stapleton – reads exactly how you’d expect it to.
And really, that’s because it lines up with what’s been happening.
These are the artists who have dominated the charts, the conversation, and the live shows over the past year. So while it might feel predictable on paper, it also makes sense given where the genre is right now.
The Names That Miss Out (And The Ones That Break Through)
Every year, there are a few names people expect to see that don’t quite make it in.
Artists like Eric Church continuing to miss out – despite putting out records that still get talked about – is one of those that stands out. And then there are acts quietly putting up strong numbers who still can’t seem to break into the nominations conversation.
That said, there are also a few inclusions that feel genuinely refreshing.Carter Faith landing an Album of the Year nod with Cherry Valley is probably the best example. It’s not the most obvious pick, and that’s exactly why it works. It shows there’s still room for something slightly outside the usual lane – even if those moments are still pretty rare.
The “New Artist” Label Still Raises Questions
Then there’s the category that always sparks a bit of debate.
“New Artist” sounds straightforward, but it rarely is. A lot of the names in these categories have already built real fanbases, released multiple projects, or been around for a few years in some capacity.
With the ACM allowing artists more than one shot at the category, it creates that slightly blurred line – where “new” doesn’t always feel brand new.
It’s not necessarily a problem, but it does keep the same question in the mix every year: what actually counts as breaking through now?
Because with how fast things move – streaming, social, viral moments – that definition isn’t as clear as it used to be.
Where This Leaves The ACMs
Taken as a whole, the 2026 nominations feel like a pretty accurate reflection of the current landscape.
They highlight a strong year for female artists, they recognise the names that have had the biggest impact commercially, and they stick closely to what’s been connecting with audiences over the past 12 months.
There are still moments that hint at something a little different – a Carter Faith here, a few unexpected nods there – but overall, the nominations stay aligned with the bigger picture of where country sits right now.
And in that sense, it’s less about being surprising, and more about getting the moment right.
